Confirmation in 2013 with the Archbishop of YorkConfirmation candidates with The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu in 2013

Confirmation of young people and adults is open to anyone living in the Parish, who is on the Electoral Roll of St Mary's or who have another connection with the parish, and has been baptised. If you have not yet been baptized, then please consult us about organising a baptism first.

Confirmation will normally be by the Bishop of Whitby,  at a special confirmation service in the church.

What is confirmation?
"Confirmation marks the point in the Christian journey at which you affirm for yourself the faith into which you have been baptized and your intention to live a life of committed discipleship. This affirmation is confirmed through prayer and the laying on of hands by the confirming bishop. The Church also asks God to give you power through the Holy Spirit to enable you to live in the way of Jesus."

From the Church of England Website

Candidates are prepared for Confirmation by the clergy and other members of the Church. Teenagers and adults have an opportunity to explore the Christian Faith in ways appropriate to their stage along life's journey.
