Centenary Chorus Concert

Centenary Chorus Concert

Sunday 17th May 2026

2 - 4pm

Here in Nunthorpe we have a strong link with the churches of all denominations, both in Nunthorpe and Marton. The Centenary Chorus is being formed specially for the occasion, to build on this relationship and to share in our centenary celebrations in a joyful bond of making music.

The day will be preceded by a Workshop Day to get ourselves familiar with the chosen programme of music - which will largely be secular - and to explore the depth of talent we have in the area.

Our Conductor / Accompanist ~ Nicola Tayler

Nicola studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama on the M.Mus Repetiteur course. After a spell as a freelance ballet pianist in the UK and Tasmania, she relocated to the North East where she works as a music teacher at Red House School.

In 2018, she was offered a position at the Royal Ballet School, playing for the Associate programme in Leeds.

She also accompanies several local choirs and musical theatre societies.

Nicola became accompanist with Guisborough Choral Society in April 2022. She also accompanies several local choirs and musical theatre societies.

Nicola, describes herself as "Not a real pianist." - I beg to differ!

We were looking for singers to join our Centenary Chorus, but forty wonderful people have now come forward to take part!

We expect the workshop will be intense, but enjoyable, as we learn new pieces, re-acquaint ourselves with some half-remembered golden-oldies and hone some more familiar favourites. With this range of abilities coming together, we will be able to learn from one another, and produce a sound to delight our audience.

Many of our members are from existing choirs, such as The Guisborough Chorla Society, St Nicholas Church Choir, 'Local Vocal', and of course, St Mary's Festival Choir. The rest just like the oportunity to sing!

Wherever we've come from, the greatest thing will be that we are united in song in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary's Church, under the expert guidance of Nicola.

The remainder of the programme yet to be finalised, but should include many iconic songs from the last 100 years.
